Jan-July revenue beats target by €2.2 bln
Finalized data on revenue for the first seven months of the year show that it exceeded the target set in the 2023 budget by €2.246 billion, or 7.1%, as VAT and income tax receipts exceeded expectations.

Cyprus gov’t defends economic policy
Cyprus' Finance Ministry fended off accusations fired by the opposition that government policy has taken its toll on the economy.
"The Cypriot economy continues its upward trend and, unlike other European countries which are entering a recession, Cyprus recorded the second highest GDP growth rate in the eurozone, after Spain, during the first half of the year," the ministry said.

Japan sank into trade deficit last month
Japan suffered a trade deficit last month as exports sank for the first time in more than two years, dragged down by a slowdown overseas.
Japan's trade deficit totaled 78.7 billion yen ($539 million), the Finance Ministry said yesterday, the first trade deficit for the world's third largest economy in two months.

Arrest on Tinos for illegal occupation of public beach space
One woman was placed under arrest on the island of Tinos for violating regulations on occupying public space on beaches, during raids carried out by the competent authorities the previous day, according to an announcement by the Finance Ministry on Thursday.
Budget posts 49 billion liras surplus
The central government budget produced a surplus of 48.6 billion Turkish Liras ($1.8 billion) in July after posting a large deficit of 219.6 billion liras in June, the Treasury and Finance Ministry has said.
Revenues grew 156 percent last month from a year ago to 504.4 billion liras, with tax collection rising nearly 177 percent.

Agricultural industrial zones to be established: Minister
The government is working on plans to establish agricultural organized industrial zones (OIZ) that will help bring food prices under control, Agriculture Minister İbrahim Yumaklı has said.
At some 100 locations agricultural OIZs, which will use geothermal power, will be set up, according to the minister.
Screws are tightened on debtors
Starting in September, the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) will be able to monitor debtors' repayment schedules in real time and message them immediately if they skip a payment.

Sunbeds return on Naxos as soon as inspectors leave
After the departure from Naxos of a Cyclades Property Service team, businesses on the iconic beaches of Plaka, Agia Anna, Agios Prokopios and Agios Georgios started again to reposition sunbeds, umbrellas and assorted beach furniture, occupying most of the coast.
Tensions over solutions for posted workers
Changes entailing increased costs for employers when posting employees abroad remain a cause of tensions in Slovenia. The Finance Ministry has still not delivered on the promise to come up with solutions to mitigate the impact of the legislation, which kicks in in 2024. Criticism has also come from diplomatic circles, where salaries will be impacted too.

Civil servants to see raises, tax cuts equal to a month’s extra salary says PM
The new raises that will be legislated by the Finance Ministry's bill to boost incomes and families will include raises and lower taxes resulting in an extra month's salary per year for 650,000 civil servants, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in Parliament on Wednesday, noting that main opposition SYRIZA and PASOK will vote down the first such raises for them in the last 14 years.
