CHP to appeal to election board for overseas votes
The main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) will apply to the Supreme Election Board (YSK) for an increase in the number of polling stations abroad so that more Turks can vote in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections, the daily Milliyet reported on Aug. 16.

Six desecrating Turkish flag detained in Jarabulus
Six people, who tried to desecrate a Turkish flag during demonstrations against Türkiye in the northern Syrian province of Jarabulus, have been detained, İhlas News Agency has reported.
According to the report, "provocateurs" caused an uprising in the city on Aug. 11 and tried to take a Turkish flag down, following statements by Türkiye's top diplomat Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.

Merve Kavakçı appointed as foreign policy board member
Merve Kavakçı, who served as Türkiye's ambassador to Malaysia, has been appointed as a member of the Foreign Policy Advisory Board of the Foreign Ministry, according to a decree published in the official gazette on Aug. 13.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria sent a note today to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia due to "numerous manifestations and slogans directed against Bulgaria".
Former Foreign Minister Türkmen passed away
Former Foreign Minister İlter Türkmen passed away on July 6 at the age of 94.
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of İlter Türkmen on July 6, 2022," the Foreign Ministry said.

Retired ambassador Nazmi Akıman passes away
Retired Turkish ambassador Nazmi Vildan Akiman passed away on July 1. Born in 1929 in Ankara, Akıman graduated from Şişli Terakki High School, Istanbul University Faculty of Law and Columbia University Faculty of Political Sciences.
He represented Türkiye as a diplomat in the Foreign Ministry between 1957 - 1991. He served as Türkiye's ambassador to Cuba, Greece and Spain.
