Türkiye launches science diplomacy in the 7th National Antarctic Science Expedition

Conducting 18 projects on Horseshoe Island as part of the 7th National Antarctic Science Expedition, Turkish researchers visited science bases belonging to eight different countries on the continent, which hold important clues about the past and future of the earth.

Snow depth shrinks during winter season in Turkey

Snow depth in Turkey remained lower this winter season than past years, data from the General Directorate of Meteorology showed on Feb. 2. 

According to records accessed by Anadolu Agency, snow depth in Turkey was usually found to be around the average human height, which is 180 centimeters (5 feet 9 inches) for men and 160 centimeters (5 feet 2 inches) for women.

Storm hits Istanbul, plane skids off airport runway

Heavy rain and strong winds hit Istanbul, disrupting transportation and causing congestion during the morning and evening rush hours on Jan. 7.  

The roofs of buildings flew off due to the strong wind in the Beşiktaş, Şişli, Kadıköy and Zeytinburnu districts.   

The storm blew the roof of an abandoned building in the historic Balat neighborhood, falling onto a street.  

Ankara welcomes 2020's first snowfall

The General Directorate of Meteorology has announced that snowfall expected in the high parts of Ankara province.

Ankara woke up with cold and snowy weather on Jan. 6 and snowfall in the high parts of the city accelerated.

An official statement has not yet been made as to whether there is a snow holiday for schools in Ankara.

Storm and rainfall hit western Turkey

The southwestern wind, which began on Dec. 22, continues to impact various cities in Turkey, especially Istanbul.

Due to the strong wind that turned into a storm from time-to-time, giant waves have lashed the coast of Üsküdar district, and sea transportation was hampered in the Bosphorus Strait and Marmara Sea.
