Names of 92 fire victims released

More than two weeks after the deadly fire in eastern Attica, in which over 92 people lost their lives, the General Secretariat for Civil Protection has released a list of the names of the dead.

The names - among them two unidentified persons - were forwarded by forensic investigators to prosecutors in Athens on Wednesday as part of the investigation into the disaster.

High fire alert for many parts of the country

Attica, the northeastern Peloponnese, Evia, the Aegean islands and much of Crete remain at high risk of fire on Tuesday, the General Secretariat for Civil Protection has announced.

Issuing its third highest fire alert, the Interior Ministry's General Secretariat for Civil Protection instructed all state services, as well as municipal and regional authorities, to be on alert.

Firefighters dispatched to douse blaze on Rhodes

Firefighters on Thursday were dispatched to douse a blaze that broke out on forestland near the village of Salakos in western Rhodes.

A total of 34 firefighters, manning 15 engines, were sent to tackle the fire, and were aided by a water-dropping helicopter.

By early afternoon the blaze was not threatening residential areas.

High risk of forest fires on Monday, Greek authorities warn

The risk of forest fires across the country is very high on Monday, according to the General Secretariat for Civil Protection which highlighted the prefectures of Attica, Evia, Viotia, Fthiotida, Fokida, Larissa, Magnisia, Corinthia, Argolida, Arkadia, Lakonia and Hania as the most vulnerable - at level 4.

Firefighters battle dozens of blazes across Greece

The country's fire service was tested on Saturday by consistently high temperatures, strong winds and tinder-dry conditions, with firefighters dispatched to battle dozens of blazes across the country.

Among the largest were fires that broke out in Koropi, eastern Attica, on the Ionian island of Zakynthos and near the resort of Ierapetra on Crete.
