Interior Ministry Act Changes Pass 2nd Reading in Parliament

A set of changes to Bulgaria's Interior Ministry Act passed second reading in Parliament.

The bill was submitted by the Council of Ministers and it took a period of over six months to be conclusively approved.

During the second-reading procedure, center-right party GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria) said it would expect the President to veto the bill.

Bulgaria's Energy Minister Vows New Strategy in June

A new energy strategy will be submitted in Parliament in June, according to Dragomir Stoynev, Minister of Economy and Energy.

Stoynev's announcement was made during the debates on the no-confidence motion against the government initiated by center-right party GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria) over its failed energy policy.

Ex Interior Minister Faces 5-Year Jail Term over Embezzlement

The prosecuting authority has requested a penalty of 5 years of imprisonment for former Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov in an embezzlement trial.

The fast-track trial against Tsvetanov, currently Deputy Chair of center-right party GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria), was launched on March 26.
