EU sanctions threat disappointing: Presidential spokesperson
A draft EU summit statement about potential sanctions on Turkey is "disappointing," presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalın said on Dec. 9.
Speaking during a German Marshall Fund virtual think tank event, Kalın said he has reviewed the document and hoped EU leaders would "avoid that language of sanctions and threats against Turkey, because sanctions will never work."

Kleine-Brockhoff told the Beta agency in an interview that basic regulations of the European Union do not prohibit member countries from maintaining good relations with countries outside the Union, and that by joining the EU Serbia could influence EU's foreign policy.
Russia Bans Romanian-American Democracy Organisation
The Black Sea Trust for Regional Cooperation, a democracy aid organisation established in 2007 by the German Marshall Fund of the United States and the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was declared 'undesirable' by the Russian government on Tuesday under a controversial law targeting alleged foreign political influence, together with several US non-governmental organisations.
