Greek inmate in Turkish prison seeks permission to attend funeral of son killed in train crash

A Greek inmate in a Turkish prison has applied for a temporary absence to attend the funeral of his son who was killed in a head-on train collision in central Greece earlier this week.

Greek media have identified the victim as 28-year-old Nikos Nalbantis. There was no information about the identity of the father or the jail where he is imprisoned.

The large Greek Community in Mariupol is on red alert following the start of Russian military operations in Ukraine.

Sources in the Greek Consulate in Marioupol, where earlier there were scattered strikes by Russian troops, say the plan must be absolutely secure in order for it to be placed in effect.

Medical aid sent to ethnic Greeks in Albania

Pharmaceutical supplies and medical equipment were sent on Wednesday to ethnic Greeks in Albania by the Attica Regional Authority and the association representing relatives of soldiers that died on the Albanian front during World War II.
The supplies were handed by the Consul General of Greece in Gjirokaster, southern Albania, to the medical center of the municipality of Dropull.

The Consul General of Greece in Boston, Stratos Efthymiou, will present the Boston Athletic Association with olive branch wreaths to crown the four first place winners of the 2019 Boston Marathon, during the annual Boston Marathon Wreath Ceremony that it will be held on April 11, according to a press release by the greek Consulate on Thursday.
