Wozzeck | Athens | January 19, 23, 26, 31 & February 2
French playwright and director Olivier Py breathes new life into Alban Berg's internationally acclaimed opera "Wozzeck," which is on stage at the Greek National Opera's Stavros Niarchos Hall in southern Athens for five performances between January 19 and February 2. GNO baritone Tassis Christoyannis stars in the title role and Vassilis Christopoulos conducts the GNO Orchestra.
Leporella | Athens | January 11-26
Composer Giorgos Kouroupos turns Stefan Zweig's 1929 short story "Leporella" into an opus for the Greek National Opera's alternative stage at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in southern Athens. The opera is in Greek and will be accompanied by English surtitles.

The World is One | Athens | January 30 - February 2
Greek electronic music pioneer Konstantinos Bhta will recite poems by the late poet Yannis Ritsos on the alternative stage of the Greek National Opera, as he shares his musical compositions with the public. Bhta performs a musical interpretation of Ritsos' poems and establishes a dialogue between the sounds and the words read, pushing the barriers of communication to another level.
Don Carlos | Athens | Last Show
The Greek National Opera presents one of the most important operas of Verdi's mature period, "Don Carlos," based on Friedrich Schiller's play of the same title, in its Italian five-act version (Modena, 1886).

La Sonnambula | Athens | To October 29
The Greek National Opera inaugurates its 2019-20 season with Vincenzo Bellini's "La Sonnambula," in a grand co-production with the Vienna State Opera and the Royal Opera House. Directed by Marco Arturo Marelli, who sets the action in a sanatorium, the production is conducted by Philippe Auguin, with Agathangelos Georgakatos leading the chorus, and costumes designed by Dagmar Niefind.

Classical Music Festival | Syros | To August 17
The International Classical Music Festival of the Cyclades is under way at the Apollon Theater in Ermoupoli on Syros. La Traviata | Athens | July 27, 28, 30 & 31
"La Traviata" tells the story of Violetta, an ill-fated French courtesan who falls in love with an unlikely man, set to music by 19th-century composer Giuseppe Verdi. Director and choreographer Konstantinos Rigos makes his operatic debut this summer with the Greek National Opera in a production to be staged at the Herod Atticus Theater on July 27, 28, 30 and 31.
