Warnings mount after quakes shake Türkiye’s southeast

Following the successive earthquakes in Hakkari's Yüksekova district, located in southeastern Türkiye, experts have once again reiterated warnings over future risks in the region.

Earthquakes of 4.4, 3.5 and 4.5 magnitude occurred successively in Yüksekova on Dec. 31, causing fear and panic among the residents.

Opposition HDP launches march under tight security

Turkey's opposition Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) on June 15 started the "March for Democracy against Coup" in the northwestern province of Edirne and the southeastern province of Hakkari.

The march, which aimed to end in the capital Ankara on June 20, has faced restrictions including bans on entry and exit to some provinces due to the novel coronavirus outbreak.

Turkish jets destroy PKK hideouts in northern Iraq

Turkish jets have destroyed weapon depots and hideouts used by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in northern Iraq, the Turkish General Staff said in a statement on Sept. 24.         

It said warplanes carried out an airstrike in the Gara region on Sept. 23 and destroyed arms and ammunition depots used by PKK militants.  

Turkish soldier killed in PKK attack in Turkey's Hakkari

One soldier was killed in an outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) attack in the Yüksekova district of the southeastern province of Hakkari on Sept. 22, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

PKK militants detonated a hand-made explosive placed on a road near the Esendere-Çobanpınar region during the passage of an armored military vehicle.

PKK attack on worksite injures worker in Turkey's Hakkari

Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants injured one worker in the southeastern province of Hakkari's Çukurca district, near the Iraqi border, early on Aug. 25, in an attack with three rocket launchers on a road construction site in the area. 

The incident occurred in Üzümlü village, approximately 20 kilometers away from the Çukurca district center.

PKK militants preparing car bomb 'neutralized' in Turkey's east

Security forces in Turkey's east "neutralized" on Aug. 22 three outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants, who had been preparing for an attack, the Turkish Armed Forces has stated.

The military said the militants were "neutralized" during an operation backed by the Turkish Air Force in a rural area of the Gürpınar district of the eastern province of Van in the morning hours.

Turkish military kills 17 PKK militants in Turkey's southeast

A total of 17 outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants were killed in Turkey's southeast on July 10 and 11. 

Eight PKK militants, who the military stated were on the verge of planning an attack, were killed in airstrikes early on July 11 in the Dargeçit district of the southeastern province of Mardin.
