Richard W. Moore | Athens | June 14 - July 7

American photographer Richard W, Moore juxtaposes the past and the present in "Athens Twice Seen," an exhibition in which he merges his own images snapped in emblematic parts of the Greek capital with vintage photographs. The show will remain on display at the Hellenic American Union through July 7. Open Mondays to Fridays from noon to 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 10.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m.

N17 hitman supporters arrested in attempted ministry raid

A man picks up a flier expressing support for hunger-striking jailed terrorist Dimitris Koufodinas after an attempted raid on the Citizens' Protection Ministry in Athens Monday by members of the Rouvikonas anti-establishment group. Seventeen of the 20 suspects who were arrested during the attempted raid already had police records, having been remanded for similar activities in the past.

Hellenic American Union offices in Thessaloniki targeted by anarchists

Members of an unknown self-styled anti-establishment group burst into the building housing the Hellenic American Union (HAU) in Thessaloniki shortly after 10 a.m. on Monday, to express support for the jailed November 17 terrorist Dimitris Koufodinas over his week-long hunger strike.

Comicdom Con | Athens | April 20-24

Greece's biggest festival dedicated to comics is taking place for the 13th year in a row at the Hellenic American Union and the French Institute from Friday, April 20, to Tuesday, April 24. There will be guest stars doing presentations and signings, showcases of established and emerging talent, and all sorts of parallel events and activities. Doors open at 11 a.m.

Fantasticon | Athens | October 7 & 8

Fantasy fans will be gathering at the Hellenic American Union this weekend for this year's annual Fantasticon convention, where special events include prizes for storytelling and digital art, the extremely popular Dungeons & Dragons tournament and the Fantasy Champions contest, as well as concerts, book presentations, etc. Opening hours are from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Patricia Freres | Athens | May 15

In cooperation with the Hellenic American College and the Hellenic American Union, the Embassy of Luxembourg in Athens presents renowned soprano Patricia Freres in an evening of opera arias and traditional songs. Also performing at the HAU event will be mezzo soprano Kassandra Dimopoulou and tenor Philip Modinos. The concert on Monday, May 15, starts at 7.30 p.m.

Comicdom Con | Athens | April 7-9

The country's biggest event on comics and comic-book artists returns for the 12th year in a row on April 7-9, taking place at the Hellenic American Union (22 Massalias), the French Institute (31 Sina) and other venues in the Neapoli district of the Greek capital in cooperation with the City of Athens.

Marianne Moore Tribute | Athens | March 14

Missouri-born poet Marianne Moore (1887-1972), known for her irony and wit, is the subject of a tribute at the Hellenic American Union on Tuesday, March 14. For the event, 12 female poets will read selections of Moore's work in their original form but also in translations done especially for this tribute. Starts at 7.30 p.m. and admission is free.
