Stormy weather is forecast in the late hours of Monday and up to midday on Tuesday, the ​​Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) has said.

Friday's stormy weather will continue on Saturday across almost all of Greece, the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) has announced.

EMY said rainfall across most parts of the mainland, as well as the central and southwestern Aegean islands, can be expected .

The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) issued an update to its special bulletin ahead of the anticipated severe weather expected to impact most of the country from Sunday until Tuesday morning. 

Temperatures of over 80 degrees Celsius in parked cars have been detected by thermal cameras as the heat wave 'Kleon' peaks over the country, with maximum temperatures reaching 42-43 Celsius in places.

Images uploaded to the EnternityGR Facebook place showed temperatures ranging from 66.5 to 84 Celsius  in a parked car in Athens.

After an unseasonably warm start to the week on Monday, daytime highs on Tuesday will reach 35 degrees Celsius in Thessaly and other parts of the eastern mainland, with the Greek capital expected to see a high of 30C and the northern port city of Thessaloniki of 29C.

The second leg of the "Zinovia" weather front is expected to hit Greece throughout Monday, with the official forecast speaking of heavy snowfalls particularly in central Greece, including the northern suburbs of Athens.

Daytime temperatures in many parts of the country are expected to hit unseasonal highs of 30 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, with the warmest weather forecast in eastern parts of the country and the Aegean islands, the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS) said on Monday.

A hot weather front sweeping into Greece from Africa will push temperatures in some parts of the country above the 40-Celsius mark over the weekend, the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS) warned on Thursday.
