Pelican deaths spark debate on wind farm locations
A debate has begun again about the location of wind farms in a nature protection area near Lake Prespa in northern Greece after three pelicans died flying into wind turbines on Sunday.

Female falcon makes trip back from Madagascar
The Hellenic Ornithological Society has welcomed the arrival on the Aegean island of Antikythira of a tagged female Eleonora's falcon after it made the long flight from the east African island nation of Madagascar.

Nine vultures found poisoned in central Greece
Reports emerged from Mesolongi, central Greece, a few days ago of the country's most serious case of vulture poisoning in the last decade, with nine dead birds found so far in the area's lagoon, while two others were transported to hospital in Athens.

Dozens of dogs poisoned in 10 days
More than 50 dogs were fatally poisoned within the space of 10 days in villages of the regions of Florina and Amyntaio in northern Greece, according to reports received by the Arcturos wildlife protection group, the Hellenic Ornithological Society and the Callisto nature conservation organization from locals and livestock breeders.

Ornithological Society carrying out parakeet count
The Hellenic Ornithological Society has embarked on a campaign this holiday season to count the growing number of ring-necked parakeets living in the parks of Athens, Thessaloniki and other cities.
This species of parakeet is common in the wild in parts of North Africa, the Indian subcontinent and Latin America.

Poacher kills rare species of pelecanus in Evros
A pelecanus crispus was found dead at Evros Delta National Park of in Trace, Northern Greece.
It was spotted by members of Hellenic Ornithological Society and Forest Service of Alexandroupolis when they were conducting a joint patrol.

Coastal development bill under fire
A draft law on coastal development prepared by Greeces Finance Ministry that has come under fire from environmental activists was also slammed by a conservative deputy on Friday who said she would vote against the monstrous bill in Parliament.
