High Cooperation Council

Seven memorandums of understanding and seven declarations covering a wide range of issues were signed on Thursday between Greek and Turkish ministers in the framework of the 5th High Cooperation Council.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who arrives in Athens on Thursday, will sit at the table in the Maximos Mansion with open cards for talks that will to a significant extent decide the pace of the new contacts for 2024 as well. 

Although expectations in Athens for the upcoming visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan this coming Thursday are low regarding the difficult issues of Greek-Turkish relations, both sides appear intent on securing the prolonging of the period of "calm waters" in the Aegean. 

A few days before his arrival in Athens on December 7 to attend the the High Cooperation Council between Greece and Turkey, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan referred to a "new page" that will open in relations between the two countries.

The meeting between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Vilnius was assessed by both sides as positive.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reached a political agreement that will lead to a prolonged period of calm in Greek-Turkish relations and the establishment of a communication channel at the highest level on Wednesday during their meeting on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Vilnius.

It's now been a few weeks since China brokered an agreement between Saudi Arabia and Iran to normalize relations. The deal, and China's role in it, shocked many countries in the region, including the US, and is already having a ripple effect across the Middle East.

On his first visit to Greece as the new Cypriot president, Nikos Christodoulides announced with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis the establishment of a High Cooperation Council between the two countries and the intention to form a common front within the EU to promote policies, especially with regard to energy and shipping.

The meeting took place at 8:00 a.m. in the building of the General Secretariat of the President of the Republic, it is stated in the announcement of the Office for Media Relations of the President of the Republic.

The two statesmen discussed the improvement and further strengthening of bilateral and economic cooperation, as well as regional and international issues of importance.
President Vui expressed satisfaction with the achieved level of bilateral relations, which is characterized by intensive political dialogue, deepened cooperation and mutual trust and respect.
