Fire-ravaged town starts rebuilding
Three hundred of the houses that were ravaged in last summer's disastrous wildfires in Mati, eastern Attica, have received permits to rebuild and are slated to receive state funding for the purpose, Infrastructure Ministry General Secretary Maria Kleanthi told a meeting of local authority officials and residents on Wednesday.

Crete damage to exceed 100 million euros
The damage to roads, buildings and infrastructure caused by the torrential rain and gales that hit the island of Crete earlier in the week will exceed 100 million euros, according to Regional Governor Stavros Arnaoutakis.
He said the precise cost will be known after a team of Infrastructure Ministry experts and local engineers complete their assessment of the damage.

Plan for new marina in Attica's Nea Makri through PPP
The town of Nea Makri, which belongs in the same municipality as Marathon, is set to get the first marina in the region of northeast Attica.
A study commissioned by the Infrastructure Ministry commissioned for the broader area has found that while southern Attica has several marinas, northeastern Attica has none that are properly licensed.
Old national road to Thessaloniki to be closed at Tempe
The Tempe section of the old national road between Larissa and Thessaloniki will be closed from spring 2019 till the end of the year for maintenance work on the bridge across the Pinios River (pictured) as it nears its 60th birthday.
The Infrastructure Ministry granted its approval for the work on Friday.

Applications for wildfire aid reach 1,761 in three days
Applications by fire victims to receive compensation for the destruction caused by the deadly blaze that burned through the east coast of Attica on July 23-24 reached 1,761 in three days, the Infrastructure Ministry said on Friday.
The ministry has pledged to support households and businesses affected by the fire by paying out a lump sum of 5,000 euros.
