MANAMA - Serbian Deputy Parliament Speaker Snezana Paunovic participated in the 146th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Manama, Bahrain, on Friday.

During a debate on fighting intolerance, Paunovic said Serbia was carrying out reforms in the field of non-discrimination to align its legal framework with relevant international and European standards.

For the first time in history, women have a presence in all parliaments around the world, according to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

The Geneva-based organization's latest report - based on data from 47 countries that held elections last year - shows that compared to 2020, the world continues to reduce the dominant role of men in representative bodies, reports Euronews.

The Turkish foreign minister on Oct. 6 met with the head of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), a global organization of national parliaments, in the Turkish capital Ankara.


"Hosted IPU President Duarte Pacheco. We value parliamentary diplomacy. Will support IPU's works on irregular migration," Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said on Twitter.

Zorčič participated in a panel on efforts to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on democracy.

The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) was founded 130 years ago as the first political multilateral organization in the world, encouraging cooperation and dialogue between all nations. Meanwhile the organization unites 179 national parliaments from all over the world and works closely with the United Nations.

She underlined Vucic's words from the opening of the Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union that Serbia is an independent and sovereign country, emphasizing that not everyone has such a privilege as Serbia.

The opening ceremony of the 141st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) began with the intonation of the Serbian anthem at the Belgrade Sava Center. The IPU will run until October 17, gathering 2,000 participants from around 150 countries.

The assembly will be held at the Center Sava in Belgrade, the president's office said.
The assembly starts at 7.30pm.
Prime Minister Ana Brnabic will also attend the opening ceremony.
The Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, hosted by the Republic of Serbia and the National Assembly of Serbia, is being held from 13 to 17 October in Belgrade.
