Today marks World Snow Day, a global event organized by the International Ski Federation since 2012, celebrated in 42 countries to promote winter sports. In Bulgaria, the renowned winter resort Bansko is actively participating in the festivities, offering various initiatives, competitions, and surprises for children at Banderishka Polyana.

Janez Gorišek, a civil engineer who designed the giant hill in Planica in the late 1960s together with his older brother Vlado and is considered a pioneer of ski flying, has died aged 89.

Salzburg – Slovenia’s Tim Farčnik has been appointed to the executive board of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) at their 15th Ordinary Congress in Salzburg, Austria, the Slovenian Ski Association (SZS) said.

Farčnik will join five other members of the executive board in the 2022-2026 period.

Maribor – Maribor will not host the women’s alpine skiing World Cup circuit for the Golden Fox Cup for the second year running due to a lack of snow amid mild and wet weather. The two-day event will move west to Kranjska Gora again.

Romanian alpine ski racer Ania Caill managed to finish on the podium in both super giant slalom events held on Wednesday in Flaine (France) under the auspices of the International Ski Federation.
