The United States and Iraq have said they will begin discussions on the future of American and other foreign troops in the country, with Baghdad expecting the talks to lead to a timeline for reducing their presence.

Protesters angered by the planned burning of a copy of the Quran stormed the Swedish Embassy in Baghdad early Thursday, breaking into the compound and lighting a small fire.

Turkey will continue its cross-border operations against the illegal PKK group in northern Iraq if Baghdad continues to overlook the group's presence in the region, the Foreign Ministry said on Aug. 13, urging Iraqi authorities to cooperate with Ankara.

Iraq's Foreign Ministry on April 16 summoned the Turkish ambassador over Ankara's counter-terror operations against the YPG/PKK in northern Iraq.

Iraqi authorities registered their protest over the operation, Fatih Yıldız told Anadolu Agency after the meeting in the capital Baghdad.

Turkey and Iraq summoned their respective ambassadors on Oct. 5 amid bitter verbal exchanges regarding Turkish troops in the Bashiqa region of Mosul, as tension rises between two neighboring countries ahead of a planned operation against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). 

In a move to diffuse tension with Baghdad over the deployment of Turkish troops to northern Iraq's Bashiqa camp, Turkey has been working on a formula to bring the training camp under the status of the coalition forces, sources told Hürriyet Daily News.

Turkish Defense Minister ?smet Y?lmaz will shortly pay a visit to Baghdad upon a consensus reached with Iraqi Foreign Minister ?brahim al-Jaafari, Turkey's top diplomat has said.

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an said that Turkish troops had been stationed at a military base in northern Iraq at the request of Iraq's leader since 2014, but Iraq had not made it an issue until this week, al-Jazeera reported on Dec. 9.

Iraqi President Fouad Massoum on Dec. 5 called the deployment of several hundred Turkish troops inside Iraq near the northern city of Mosul "a violation of international norms and law." 

A Turkish security source said on Dec. 4 the forces would provide training for Iraqi troops near Mosul, which is controlled by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
