After the ceasefire agreement - sirens sounded again
An Egyptian source and a senior Islamic Jihad official told AFP that a ceasefire came into effect early on Thursday.
The "ceasefire agreement comes as a result of Egypt's efforts" and has been endorsed by "Palestinian factions including Islamic Jihad", said the top Egyptian official.
An Islamic Jihad source confirmed the agreement to AFP.

UN Warns Gaza on the Brink of War
The latest escalation of fighting between Israel and Palestinian Hamas has pushed Gaza to the brink of war, the UN envoy for the Middle East warned the Security Council on Wednesday.
Nickolay Mladenov delivered the stark warning as the council remained deadlocked over how to respond to the flare-up between Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip and Israel.

Israeli tank fire at an Islamic Jihad observation post killed two militants from the group in the southern Gaza Strip on May 27, Palestinian officials said.
Fatah and Hamas to form unity government
According to Al Jazeera, the Fatah-dominated Palestinian Authority has agreed to form a unity government with rival organisation Hamas.
The two organisations will form a new National Council. The plan is to include Palestinians in exile and then hold elections.
It should be noted that the Islamic Jihad group was also included in the negotiations.
