Istanbul takes traffic measures as residents return after Eid

Authorities in Istanbul, a bustling metropolis home to 16 million, are implementing safety measures to enhance traffic flow and prevent accidents as citizens return home following the nine-day Eid holiday.

Istanbul Police Headquarters announced a series of traffic measures to be implemented between April 5 and 15, the period of the holiday and the second-semester break.

Police nab 33 ISIL suspects over plotting attacks

The police have apprehended 33 suspects of the ISIL terrorist organization over allegedly preparing attacks ahead of the country's local elections later this month, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya has said.

The suspects were "preparing and searching for action before the upcoming local elections," Yerlikaya wrote on X on March 10. Nationwide elections are due to be held on March 31.

Police arrest 10 alleged spies operating for foreign intels

Istanbul police have apprehended 10 individuals suspected of engaging in espionage activities on behalf of foreign intelligence services, the Interior Ministry reported on Feb. 22.

The arrests were the result of coordinated efforts between the National Intelligence Organization (MİT) and police.
