A group of students from Boğaziçi University and Istanbul University have received the top award in a youth enterprise competition held by a leading business organization for their mobile health application, which enables patients to monitor their physical therapy processes any time they need. 

Mosaics unearthed during excavation works in the ancient city of Perge in the southern province of Antalya are dubbed "Turkey's second Zeugma" for its alluring appearance. The mosaics are expected to draw tourists to the region. 

Nearly 15,000 Syrians are enrolled in Turkish universities as of the 2016-2017 academic year, Higher Education Board (YÖK) head Yekta Saraç has said. 

One thirds of Syrian university students are women and the rest are men, while 3,473 Syrian students in the country are receiving education as a part of the special "Turkey Scholarship" program, Saraç added.

The doyenne of archaeology in Turkey, Halet Çambel, is among the prominent female figures depicted in a doodle prepared by Google for International Women's Day on March 8.

The slideshow doodle showcased 13 female pioneers from around the world including Americanjournalist Ida Wells, Egypt's first female pilot Lotfia El Nadi, and Mexian painter Frida Kahlo.

A court in Istanbul has ruled Istanbul University to pay compensation to a girl whose mother died after she received wrong blood transfusion during a caesarean section surgery at the university's Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty Hospital in 2013. 

Turkey's Nasreddin Hodja -- a unique and entertaining character from Turkish folklore -- has found a new home in an unlikely setting: Greece.
       
At a special storytelling event in Athens recently, stories of the Hodja -- a kind of a mixture of fool and wise man -- were read out by husband and wife team Panagiotis Kokkoris and Turkey-born Gözde Atalay-Kokkoris.        

The Ottoman administration exiled writer and poet Namık Kemal. The sultan who had sent him into exile remained "one of the other sultans." Namık Kemal, on the other hand, became the "poet of the country" and "the poet of freedom." 

An Istanbul court ordered the arrest of a former chief adviser for Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu on Dec. 22 as part of the ongoing investigation into the Gülen movement, which is accused of orchestrating the failed coup of July 15, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

This year's archaeological excavations carried out in the ancient city of Daskyleion in the northwestern province of Balıkesir's Bandırma district have unearthed two kitchens with utensils such as pots, pans, fish bone, seed and mortar made of basalt stone. 

Journalist Hüsnü Mahalli, who was detained for allegedly insulting state officials on Twitter, was referred to court on Dec. 15 after he was taken to hospital for his illness.

Earlier in the day, Mahalli had been transferred to the Cerrahpaşa Medicine Faculty Hospital after falling sick during proceedings at the police headquarters.
