Court rejects proposal to stay govt’s decision not to appoint EDPs

Ljubljana – The Ljubljana Administrative Court has rejected a request from prosecutors Tanja Frank Eler and Matej Oštir to stay the government’s May decision not to get formally acquainted with their appointment as Slovenia’s European delegated prosecutors (EDPs), saying that the request has not been sufficiently reasoned.

Govt says Slovenia complies with directive on non-EU citizens and property

Ljubljana – The government has adopted a response to the European Commission’s warning that Slovenia does not comply with a directive on the status of non-EU citizens who are long-term residents and their right to buy property. Justice Ministry state secretary steps down

Ljubljana – Anže Erbežnik, a state secretary at the Justice Ministry, has stepped down after less than a month on the job, the ministry confirmed for the STA.

Erbežnik was named to the post on 22 June, a week after Marjan Dikaučič was appointed minister following the resignation of Lilijana Kozlovič over the government’s refusal to appoint two European delegated prosecutors.

Buca Prison shut down after 62 years

A well-known prison in the Aegean province of İzmir has been closed after hosting more than 600,000 inmates in 62 years.

The İzmir Closed and Open Penitentiary Institution, also known as the Buca Prison, which was evacuated after a 6.6-magnitude earthquake that occurred last year, was shut down following an approval of the Justice Ministry.
