Opinion Poll survey: New Democracy maintains 11.6 percentage point lead over SYRIZA, KINAL on the rise

Ruling New Democracy maintains an 11.6 percentage point lead over main opposition SYRIZA in an Opinion Poll survey conducted between 7-12 February for tomanifesto.gr.

The poll shows that centre-left KINAL is on the rise and if that trend continues, some analysts believe it could have a fighting chance of beating SYRIZA for second place

Tasoulas elected Parliament Speaker with broad, five-party backing

Veteran New Democracy MP (representing the district of Ioannina) Konstantinos Tasoulas has been elected Parliament Speaker with an unprecedented 283 votes in the 300-seat legislature.

Tasoulas was supported by five of the legislature's six parties (New Democracy, SYRIZA, Movement for Change, Elliniki Lysi, and MeRa 25).

Five-way electoral debate on 1 July, no one-on-one between Tsipras, Mitsotakis

An inter-party committee that convenes at the Interior Ministry has decided that the sole parliamentary elections debate will be held on 1 July between PM and SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras, main opposition New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Movement for Change leader Fofi Gennimata, KKE Greek Communist Party leader Dimitris Koutsoumbas, and Centrists' Union leader Vasilis Leventis.

ND leads SYRIZA by 9 percentage points in general election poll

Even as SYRIZA confronted a New Democracy landslide in 2 June local election run-offs, a poll on voter intention in the 7 July general election had the ruling party trailing ND by nine percentage points, nearly the identical spread between the two top parties as in the 26 May European Parliament election.
