Number of illegal migrants more than doubles to 15,500 in Jan-Sept
Slovenian police intercepted a total of 15,590 illegal migrants in the January-September period, a rise of 115% from the same nine-month period last year. Police statistics show that Afghanistan citizens accounted for the largest single group of illegal migrants – 2,691 of the total.
Illegal migration in January-April period up 86% y/y
Ljubljana – Slovenian police dealt with 3,107 cases of illegal migration in the first four months of this year, up nearly 86% on the same period last year. Afghan citizens accounted for more than a quarter of all the illegal migrants caught from January through April, fresh police data shows.
Bear attacks and injures a hunter in Postojna area
Postojna – A bear attacked a man on Sunday in the Postojna area, between the Baba and Mali Javornik hills, during a hunting drive. The 63-year-old hunter was taken to the local community health centre with a broken arm, injured ribs and several wounds on his back.

Missing Turkish migrant girl found dead in Dragonja River
Koper – A 10-year-old Turkish girl who went missing after she fell into the swollen Dragonja on the Slovenian-Croatian on Thursday evening and got swept downstream as her mother was carrying her on her shoulders across the river, was found dead around noon today.
Bangladeshi migrant found dead in border area
Koper – A 31-year-old national of Bangladesh has been found dead in the Dragonja valley in the border area between Slovenia and Croatia with initial information indicating hypothermia as the cause of death, the Koper Police Department has reported.

Two women stabbed in separate incidents
Ljubljana – Two women were stabbed on Monday morning in separate incidents involving male perpetrators, both of whom have been apprehended. Both wounded women have been hospitalised.
In Postojna, a man stabbed a 22-year-old woman several times, the Koper Police Department said, adding that the woman had been taken to hospital, while the suspect had been apprehended.

Police break up migrant smuggling ring
Koper – The police have uncovered a criminal ring that has been smuggling migrants from Bosnia through Croatia and Slovenia to Italy. According to the Koper Police Department, the ring consisted of six members – four Slovenians, one Kosovo national and one national of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

30-year-old man attacked by bear near Pivka
Pivka – A 30-year-old local was attacked by a bear in the woods near the village of Zagorje, south of Pivka (SE), on Monday evening. The man has been taken to the UKC Ljubljana hospital, but there is no official information about his condition yet.

Koper police help migrants caught in a storm
Koper – Koper police on Wednesday helped a group of migrants caught in a storm, and pulled over a van with eleven illegal migrants in south-western Slovenia, the Koper Police Department said on Thursday.
Police received a phone call from an Afghan citizen who said that a group of migrants was caught in a storm “somewhere in the hills”.

Justice minister resigns as govt annuls delegated prosecutor procedure
Ljubljana – Justice Minister Lilijana Kozlovič has handed her resignation, the Justice Ministry confirmed for the STA. The reason is the government’s decision to annul the procedure to appoint Slovenia’s two European delegated prosecutors and to publish a new call for applications, which Kozlovič sees no justified grounds for.
