Minimum wage formula shift

A new mathematical formula to determine the minimum wage will apply from January 1, 2028 onward, will rely on inflation and productivity rates, and will be fully binding for the respective government. The regulation, which will be in the draft law of the Ministry of Labor, will not permit its reduction.

Britain urgently seeking to reset EU trade ties: Minister

Britain is urgently looking to reset its trading relationship with the European Union, and sees international commerce as key to reviving U.K. growth, Trade Minister Douglas Alexander has told AFP.

Alexander said Britain's 2016 vote to leave the EU caused "significant disruption" to its trade policy and the country needed to recalibrate its global trade outlook.

Labor inspectors get busier

Labor inspectors have intensified their checks, looking for businesses that violate workplace regulations.

In a social media post, Labor Minister Niki Kerameus said Wednesday that there have been 7.4% more inspections and 15.1% more fines over violation, and an extra 15.1% in the amount of fines assessed over the first seven months of the year compared to the same period in 2023.

Employers ask gov’t to continue incentives

The business world has asked the government to continue incentives for the companies in Türkiye on employment and production.

A delegation of the Turkish Confederation of Employer Associations (TİSK), led by Özgür Burak Akkol, chairman of the board of the federation, presented the demands of the business community to Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz at a meeting on Aug. 14.

New interest in collective bargaining

The government wants to strengthen collective bargaining procedures, reversing a trend that saw sector agreements often ditched in favor of enterprise deals.

The government, having increased the minimum wage, has committed itself to raising middle-ranking private sector employees' wages, addressing concerns about stagnant incomes and the impact of inflation.
