Second wave of coronavirus handouts to salary workers

The special 800-euro compensation was credited on Monday to 105,853 workers in Greece whose labor contracts with businesses deemed non-essential during the coronavirus pandemic have been suspended, as the second phase of handouts has started concerning those who applied on the special platform between April 11 and 20.

Fines for employers who cheat

Enterprises found to be employing workers whose contracts have been suspended will be fined 1,200 euros for each employee, according to a decision by Labor Minister Yiannis Vroutsis. The fine will also concern corporations that have suspended the labor contracts of employees but still employ over 10 percent of them through teleworking.

Workers to get stipend after April 10

The first payments of a special handout of 800 euros for workers hit by the coronavirus crisis will be made after April 10. The emergency stipend concerns people who are out of work either because their employers were forced to shut down their business by the government or because their contracts have been suspended by enterprises hurt by the pandemic.
