Long queues of patients lining up since early hours to sign up for a general practitioner at one of the units of the Ljubljana Community Health Centre have thrown spotlight on an acute crisis in Slovenia's healthcare.

Trade fair organisers welcome events industry reopening
Ljubljana/Celje/Gornja Radgona – Slovenia’s major trade fair organisers are happy the government has reopened the events industry and are busy preparing their annual trade fairs to be held in late summer or early autumn, hoping the existing coronavirus restrictions will be further relaxed by then. A ban on fairs and conventions had been in place for over a year until 24 May.
Vaccines in short supply to meet vaccination centres’ demand
Ljubljana/Maribor – Slovenia’s vaccination centres are receiving fewer anti-Covid vaccines this week than they have ordered because there are not enough at the moment, the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ) has told the STA. This is because supplies by produces other than Pfizer are still rather unreliable.
Orders received for over 2,600 jabs for matura students, staff
Ljubljana – The National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ) has received an order for 2,625 shots of Corona-19 vaccine for final-year secondary school students taking the matura exam this year and the staff involved, while others will receive the leftover shots. Almost 17,000 students will take the school-leaving exam this year. The vaccination is voluntary.
People massively turning down AstraZeneca jab
Maribor/Ljubljana – Slovenia’s largest two vaccination centres witnessed massive cancellations by those due to get an AstraZeneca jab last week. Half of those invited turned down the jab in Maribor and a third in Ljubljana.

Vaccination plan presented as vaccination of elderly over 80 starts
Brdo pri Kranju/Ljubljana – PM Janez Janša and NIJZ director Milan Krek presented Slovenia’s vaccination plan until the end of June, as vaccination was launched around the country on Tuesday for the elderly who are not in residential care and are older than 80.
