Medical University

The Rectorate of the Medical University in Pleven caught fire yesterday. Large part of the roof burned down, according to the initial data of the management.

The fire affected about 800 square meters, there is no damage to the library. Evacuation and huge damage after the fire were reported.

More than 500 medical workers leave Bulgaria every year. With the start of the Covid crisis and the strain on the healthcare system, the shortage of medical workers reached a critical point. At this point statistical data are staggering - at medical establishments there is a shortage of 470 doctors and 26,000 nurses!

Epidemiological testing for Covid-19 is to take place in Bulgaria's second biggest city of Plovdiv. Around 1,000 people from the city are to be tested randomly, Prof. Dr. Mariana Murdzheva, Rector of the Medical University in Plovdiv said for the BNR.

By the end of next week, the PCR Laboratory for the establishment of COVID-19 in Pleven will be ready. The rector of the Pleven Medical University, Professor Slavcho Tomov, assured this at today's meeting of the Regional Operations Headquarters. The laboratory will be located at Second Clinic. Cellink's first bio-printer in Bulgaria starts work at the Department of Medical Biology at the Medical University in Plovdiv, the school said on Monday, reports Mediapool. 

The bio-printer allows the creation of computer-controlled 3D objects by overlaying synthetic and / or biological materials in multiple layers.

A Roman tomb of the 1-3 century was discovered at the Medical University in Plovdiv. According to archaeologists, it is part of the western necropolis of Philippopolis.

It was discovered during the repair of the steam installation in the medical facility. The Roman tomb is made of bricks,  and the roof is made of granite.
