Flood support heading to Thessaly flood victims

New payments for emergency assistance have been issued to the victims of the floods that occurred in various areas of Thessaly and central Greece at the beginning of September 2023.

According to an announcement from the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, 2,591,737 euros was credited to citizens' bank accounts last Thursday.

National Observatory of Athens opposes being moved to Civil Protection

The government's intention to incorporate the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), the oldest and one of the largest research institutions in the country, into the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, by cutting it off from the General Secretariat of Research and Technology, where all research centers belong, is coming under fire from the research community. 

Authorities revoke state of emergency in Rhodes

The state of emergency declared in Rhodes on July 20 following the destructive wildfires that ravaged the island for more than 10 says was lifted on Saturday, the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection announced.

Residents and visitors received a notifications from the emergency number 112 to return safely to their places of residence.

Rhodes blaze cannot be contained

The wildfire racing across the island of Rhodes for a week now had burned an estimated 34,200 hectares by Monday evening and rages on, uncontained.

On Monday, things took a turn for the worse as the fire tore past defenses and more evacuations were ordered, in the central and southern parts of the island.
