Electricity: Subsidies of 1.5 cents per kilowatt-hour for residential consumers in December

The Ministry of Environment and Energy announces today, Friday, December 6, 2024, the amount of the emergency support for electricity bills concerning December consumption.

Specifically, the subsidies for electricity in residential tariffs and for all primary and secondary residences, without income criteria and regardless of the supplier, are structured as follows:

Forest protection scheme in the works

The Ministry of Environment and Energy is advancing a reform aimed at protecting the country's forests from climate change, with 750 million euros in funding.

Special emphasis is placed on flood prevention in Thessaly and Attica. The interventions include forest engineering projects, anti-wildfire measures, management studies and mountain hydrology works.

Electricity: Support measures to continue until at least February 2025

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will receive retroactive subsidies, with tax exemptions also under consideration.

The Ministry of Environment and Energy plans to extend electricity subsidies for households for at least the next three months. Businesses, particularly those excluded from the summer subsidies, will also receive support.

Green growth plan for islands

Endowed with 25 million CO2 emission rights from the EU's greenhouse gas emissions trading system, which at current prices are valued at 1.6 billion euros, the Islands Decarbonization Fund is set to get to work, leveraging investments of €3.8 billion for the 2025-2032 period.
