A group of Arab nations led by Saudi Arabia and Egypt cut ties with Qatar on June 5, accusing the gas-rich Gulf country of supporting extremism, while a number of regional and global actors, including Turkey and the U.S., called for dialogue to resolve the dispute.

Provoking Turkey will not bring peace
Turkey is furious about the United States' decision to arm Kurdish forces in Syria, and rightly so. So far, both the Turkish government's Syrian and Kurdish policies have been, and still are, full of mistakes and miscalculations. In fact, from the beginning of the whole affair, I have been among the harsh critics of the both Syrian and Kurdish policies.

Trump praises Sisi, says he hopes to visit Egypt
U.S. President Donald Trump said on May 21 he hoped to visit Cairo soon, praising President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi after a meeting in Saudi Arabia and declaring that "safety seems to be very strong" in Egypt.
Speaking through a translator, Sisi described Trump as "a unique personality that is capable of doing the impossible."

On Tuesday, National Security Adviser H. R. McMaster gave a press briefing in which he spoke of President Trump’s trip to the Middle East, offering a glimpse of what Trump has planned, and revealing Trump would directly address the issues plaguing Islam. McMaster said Trump will deliver a speech “to unite the broader Muslim world against common enemies of all civilization.”
Hamas' new manifesto and attempt at diplomacy
The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, better known as Hamas, issued a new political document in Doha, Qatar on May 1. The document, titled "General Principles and Policies," contains 42 articles and was an outcome of four years of internal deliberations among various fractions of Hamas, from Gaza and in prison or in exile.

Qatar needs to stop funding Islamists
President Trump is looking anew at American allies and partners. While saying he will preserve these relationships, he wants them to pay their fair share and uphold their side of the relationship. Whether it is South Korea or Saudi Arabia, they are subject to his calls for them to contribute more and defray our costs in deploying forces to defend them.

Are we the only ones left doing the 'Rabia sign?'
The last support in the Middle East for the "Muslim Brotherhood" ended on May 2. Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal personally declared the new policy document of his organization, announcing that it is not a "branch of the Muslim Brotherhood" anymore. He also declared that Hamas would form better relations with Egypt and other Muslim countries that have problems with the Muslim Brotherhood.
