At least 700 photographs from NASA’s “golden era” in space exploration are being sold by Bloomsbury Auctions in London. This includes the first “selfie” taken in space, as well as a rare image of the first astronaut to ever set foot on the Moon: Neil Armstrong.

NASA has pushed back the launch of a satellite to study soil moisture to Saturday, so that it can perform "minor repairs" to the launch rocket.
Mountain-sized asteroid to skim by Earth
An asteroid the size of a mountain is about to shave by Earth, in a rare type of flyby that will not be seen for another decade, astronomers said Jan. 26.
The asteroid, known as 2004 BL86, runs no risk of a colliding with Earth and will be about three times farther than the Moon when it passes.

Long-lost British space probe found on Mars: agency
A British-built space probe that disappeared without trace more than a decade ago has been spotted on the surface of Mars, the UK Space Agency said on Jan. 16.
The Beagle 2 lander was found partially deployed with one of its parachutes still attached in images taken by NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO).

NASA finds more Earth-like planets outside solar system
Earth has a few more near-twin planets outside our solar system, tantalizing possibilities in the search for extraterrestrial life.
Astronomers announced Tuesday that depending on definitions, they have confirmed three or four more planets that are about the same size as Earth and are in the not-too-hot, not-too-cold "Goldilocks Zone" for liquid water to form.
