Ponta, about President's suspension: It was hard to accept two years ago's referendum was ignored
Prime Minister Victor Ponta on Sunday wrote on his wall on the social networking site Facebook that it was very hard for him two years ago, when President Basescu was suspended by the Parliament, to accept that the vote given by the Romanians in the 2012 referendum was ignored.
Romanian Mayor Detained for Bribe-Taking
Stavarache, a member of the opposition National Liberal Party, was remanded in custody for 30 days on Tuesday for allegedly receiving bribes of over 2.3 million lei (some 520,000 euro) from businessmen.

Romanian PM Set to Run For Presidency
The executive board of the ruling Social Democratic Party, PSD, decided on Monday that Victor Ponta would be the party’s candidate for the presidential elections, and an official announcement is to be made by the end of this month.

Romanian Opposition Party Elects New Leader
The National Liberal Party, PNL, Romania’s biggest opposition party, elected Klaus Iohannis as its new president on Saturday.
Iohannis, 55, an ethnic German and popular mayor of Transylvanian city of Sibiu, has replaced former parliament speaker Crin Antonescu, and has promised to revive the party’s popularity.

PM Ponta calls on Constitutional Court head to communicate President insolvency law ruling
Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta sent a letter to the Constitutional Court of Romania president Augustin Zegrean asking him to instruct "that the adequate measures" are taken so that the Court ruling on the insolvency law "should produce the legal effects".

Crin Antonescu, head of Romania's main opposition National Liberal Party, PNL, on Monday announced that he would resign from his post after the party failed to win over voters in last weekend's European Parliament elections.
The party vice-presidents also resigned from their positions.

Over 50 candidates vying for 8 MP seats in May 25 parliamentary by-elections
The over 50 candidates in the race for eight seats of senators and deputies in the vacated colleges, have tried to convince the electors they deserve their vote in the May 25 Romanian parliamentary by-elections.
The election campaign for the parliamentary by-elections ends at 7 a.m. on Saturday.
