Patra authorities address meningitis concerns ahead of Carnival bash
Health authorities in the western port of Patra on Thursday sought to assure the public that a small cluster of meningitis cases at the city's university is being dealt with and should not put off revelers hoping to join the country's biggest Carnival festivities this weekend.
Second hospital death attributed to strep
A second hospital death in a week is being attributed to a very invasive form of streptococcal disease that infects the respiratory tract.
According to reports on Tuesday, the bacteria has been confirmed as the cause of death of a 28-year-old man in Thessaloniki, northern Greece, last week.

The scientific community, in Greece as well, has been alarmed over the Delta + mutation as, according to the data of the National Organization of Public Health (EODY), a total of 11 cases of the new variant of the coronavirus have been identified, which were detected scattered within Greek territory.

New coronavirus infections in Greece rose to 698 on Monday from 662 on Sunday, bringing the total number of infections since the start of the pandemic to 172,824.
Of the total number of new cases, 328 were reported in Attica.

Wastewater viral load in Athens points to 80,000-90,000 Covid-19 carriers, professor says
The viral load found in the urban wastewater of Athens shows that there may be 80,000 to 90,000 symptomatic or asymptomatic carriers of Covid-19 in the region, said Nikos Thomaidis, professor of analytical chemistry at Athens University.
1,195 new infections recorded in Greece, 246 intubations
Greek health authorities on Friday announced 1,195 new cases of SARS-CoV-2 in the country, which brought the total number recorded to 162,107.
Furthermore, 246 coronavirus patients are currently intubated (median age is 70), while 1,155 have left ICU.
Authorities report 543 new virus infections, 33 deaths
New SARS-CoV-2 infections in Greece rose to 543 on Monday from 484 on Sunday, bringing the total number of infections since the start of the pandemic to 157,495.
Almost half of the new cases (265) were confirmed in Attica.

Virus infections appear resistant to lockdown measures
Coronavirus infections in Greece seemed resistant to the continuing restrictive measures with 866 new cases announced by health authorities on Tuesday, compared with 444 on Monday.
The National Organization of Public Health (EODY) said the total number of infections since the start of the pandemic was 146,020.
