New measures for Attica may be announced later on Tuesday, says health minister

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Tuesday called for an emergency meeting of the committee of health experts that is advising the government on its management of the coronavirus pandemic, seeking to address calls for a hard lockdown on Greek capital.

Another 638 virus infections, 25 deaths reported on Monday

The National Organization for Public Health (EODY) reported 638 new infections on Monday, which drove the total number to 164,575.

Once again, more than half of the country's new cases (361) were detected in Attica.

A total of 403 cases of the new UK variant of Covid-19 have been registered in Greece so far, Panagiotis Arkoumaneas, president of the National Organization for Public Health (EODY), has said, while not ruling out the prospect of another full national lockdown to contain infections.

New virus infections remain above 1,000 for second day

Greek health authorities recorded 1,151 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, bringing the total number to 159,866.

Of these new cases, only eight were reported at the country's entry points.

The National Organization for Public Health (EODY) said 27 more patients died from Covid-19, raising the total number of fatalities to 5,878. Their median age was 79.

New virus infections jump to 941

The number of new infections announced by Greek health authorities jumped to 941 on Friday, from 716 on Thursday, bringing the total number of recorded cases to 155,678.

Seventeen of these new cases were reported at the country's entry points, according to new data from the National Organization for Public Health (EODY).
