Israel's National Security Council on June 28 lowered its travel warning for Istanbul from the highest level, after the government said Iranian assassination plots targeting Israelis in the city had been thwarted.

Aleksandar Vui addressed the media from Brussels.

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on May 30 it was essential to create a "safe zone" inside Syria near the Turkish border, his office said.

The U.S. administration intends to do that by sending advanced, long-range missile systems, which are now the main request of Ukrainian officials, several unnamed officials said.

Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has criticized the security summit that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan convened after Russia staged war against Ukraine, saying the parliament should have debated the issue and a National Security Council should have evaluated the crisis.
