Bulgaria is in the last three countries of the European Union (EU) with the lowest share of innovative enterprises in the Union, according to data from Eurostat analysis of the survey of community innovations in 2017. In Bulgaria only 27% of the total share of enterprises develop some effective innovation activity, with an average EU indicator of 51% of high-tech enterprises.
In January 2019, the industrial production index rose 3.2% month-on-month and 2.8% compared with the first month of 2018, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said. On annual basis, the mining and quarrying industry registered a 16.4% growth, followed by a 2.9% rise in manufacturing, while power, gas, steam and air conditioning supply shrank by 1.1%.
In the fourth quarter of 2018, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) amounted to BGN 29,813 million at current prices. Recalculated in euro, GDP is EUR 15 243 million, with per capita EUR 2 168. Seasonally adjusted data showed growth of 3.2% of GDP in the fourth quarter of 2018 compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year and 0.8% on the third quarter of 2018.
The total producer price index in January 2019 decreased by 0.4% compared to the previous month, but compared to a year earlier the increase was by 1.4%, the National Statistical Institute reported.
The data show that prices in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply significantly increased by 0.9% compared to the previous month and by 5.3% compared to January 2018.
