Parliamentary body endorsees changes in education
Ljubljana – The parliamentary Education Committee endorsed late on Friday amendments to the organisation and financing of education act, which would change the composition of school and kindergarten councils to increase the influence of the founder, as members of the opposition obstructed.

LMŠ sets out plan for Slovenia’s normalisation and development breakthrough
Ljubljana – The Marjan Šarec List (LMŠ) endorsed their election manifesto and platform on Saturday, setting out solutions which they say should restore a normality in Slovenia and pave the way for a development breakthrough. Marjan Šarec, the former PM, said the next government would have its work cut out fixing the consequences of the incumbent one.
NSi offers itself as solution to end bi-partisan antagonism
Ljubljana – New Slovenia (NSi) met for a virtual congress on Saturday in preparation for next year’s general election where their leader Matej Tonin said this Christian democratic party should get the mandate to form a government in order to avoid the “inefficiency” of the centre-left and the “sharpness” of the senior partner in the current ruling coalition.
DeSUS expects answers as opinions clash over justice minister
Ljubljana – The centre-left opposition insisted Marjan Dikaučič was not fit to serve as justice minister as debate on their ouster motion in parliament focussed on legal proceedings running against him. The coalition rallied in his support nonetheless, while the Pensioners’ Party (DeSUS), which will decide the vote, called on him to provide concrete answers.

Ljubljana – The National Assembly will vote on Monday on a motion of no confidence in Justice Minister Marjan Dikaučič, tabled by the majority of the opposition parties. The debate is scheduled to last up to 13 hours, and the outcome of the vote is uncertain.
Centre-left opposition stands by accusations against Kustec
Ljubljana – The opposition Marjan Šarec List (LMŠ), Social Democrats (SD), Left, Alenka Bratušek Party (SAB) and the non-affiliated MPs, argued in the National Assembly on Friday that Education Minister Simona Kustec must go. The coalition stepped up in her defence. The Pensioners’ Party (DeSUS) deputy group is still undecided.
Govt approval rating lowest in this term
Ljubljana – The government approval rating slipped to its lowest point this term in the latest Barometer poll commissioned by the newspaper Delo. As many as 40% of respondents gave the cabinet a very negative grade. The gap between the ruling Democrats (SDS) and the opposition Social Democrats (SD) is narrowing.

Večer says 24 April election will come too late
Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor has decided to call a general election on the first possible date, 24 April 2022, “but if he expected to calm down the increasingly tense situation in the country, he was very wrong”, the newspaper Večer says in Saturday’s commentary under the headline No Reprieve.

Committee throws out pharmacy bill after upper chamber veto
Ljubljana – The parliamentary Health Committee rejected amendments to the pharmacy act on Friday evening after the National Council vetoed the changes in late October. The bill was thrown out in an 8:7 vote.
In the repeated procedure, the amendments would need an absolute majority to be adopted, so ten MPs would have to support them at the committee level.
Parties with mixed reactions to election date announcement
Ljubljana – After President Borut Pahor announced he would call a general election for 24 April, this triggered varied reactions from political parties all across the political spectrum. Coalition partners largely welcomed this decision, while opposition parties mostly still favour the increasingly unlikely option of a snap election.
