Happy together

As recently as five years ago Turkey had a happy story to tell ? and sell. Its ?moderate? Islamists would be the role model in the Arab world; borders in the Middle East would be as peaceful as the U.S.-Canadian border; the Crescent and Star?s ?rise and rise?

Six US F-16 Jets Deployed to Turkey for IS Offensive

US fighter aircraft have been deployed at the Incirlik Air Base in Turkey to help Ankara fight against the Islamic State (IS) group, US envoys to NATO have said.

The deployment, which came from the Aviano Air Base in Italy, includes 300 US military personnel.

Ankara and Washington agreed last month that the Incirlik base will be used by warplanes to attack IS positions.

Turkey to become the main base in anti-ISIL fight

The implementation of a deal between Turkey and the United States in the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has already started, as armed drones from ?ncirlik air base hit jihadist troops earlier this week. The next step will be the deployment of U.S. warplanes to ?ncirlik, from where they will conduct aerial strikes against ISIL.

A new era for Turkey's military

Turkey?s top soldier is assuming his responsibilities at a very critical time. Amid a civil war in nearby Syria, a possible land offensive in Iraq against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and the surge of outlawed Kurdistan Workers? Party (PKK) attacks inside Turkey, Gen. Hulusi Akar will be juggling many balls while delicately handling domestic politics.
