A Turkish major, who was killed Sept. 26 in an attack by suspected members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in the eastern province of Tunceli, was laid to rest in Ankara on Sept. 27.

Turkey's early election slated for Nov. 1 has seen a considerable increase in the number of registered voters, the country's Supreme Election Board (YSK) has revealed.

The board says that more than 54 million people are registered to vote in Turkey while almost 2.9 million people will be able to cast their votes from outside the country.

Turkey's Kurdish problem cannot be solved solely by military means, but with consensus and "brotherhood," Republican People's Party (CHP) head Kemal K?l?çdaro?lu has said. 

Speaking at a party meeting during his election campaign trip in Europe on Sept. 25, K?l?çdaro?lu said the issue could not currently be resolved because politicians have "endorsed the case to the military."

Leading religious figures from the Christian and Muslim communities in the southern province of Mersin have sung prayers together for all the deceased regardless of their religions in the Mersin City Cemetery.

As Turkey heads to a reelection on Nov. 1 following the June 7 polls, which failed to produce a single-party or coalition government, the country's political parties have shifted their focus to provinces where they narrowly lost seats in the last election, with some locations particularly under the spotlight.  

The position of the president has been causing fierce debate for a while. There is also a boom in the number of investigations launched on charges of insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an.  
    

Republican People's Party (CHP) head Kemal K?l?çdaro?lu has started a five-day European tour during which he is scheduled to meet top European politicians and Turks living in Europe, as part of his party's election campaign.

Political leaders and the Turkish president have conveyed their messages for the Feast of Sacrifice, which starts on Sept. 24 and lasts for four days, all putting an emphasis on the terror attacks towards the country's security forces in the past two months. 

Turkey's main opposition party has criticized the minor opposition party, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), vowing not to let votes slide from their party to the latter with the idea of letting it pass the 10 percent threshold required to hold seats at parliament.
