Double Homicide in Varna

A man and a woman were killed by a relative with a knife in a family house in the Vinitsa district of Varna, according to police. A 54-year-old man was arrested in the case as the perpetrator of the murders. He himself gave a signal to the emergency phone, BNR reports. He has made full confessions and is currently being questioned.

Dijana Hrkalović's appeal rejected

Criminal extra-trial Chamber of the Special Department of the High Court in Belgrade rejected the appeal of the defense attorneys of the former State Secretary in the Ministry of the Interior, Dijana Hrkalovi.
Her defense attorneys appealed for the pre-trial judge's decision to be changed and for her detention to be lifted, so that she could be released pending trial.

SANS and Interior Ministry Inspect Energy Watchdog

State Agency for National Security (SANS) and the Ministry of Interior have requested information from the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission and the Independent Bulgarian Energy Exchange, the two institutions have told BNR. They did not specify what the required information was, but most likely these are documents related to electricity trading on the energy exchange.

Bulgaria's Supreme Judicial Council Approves Six European Delegated Prosecutors

Meeting on Friday, the 11-member Prosecutors Chamber of the Supreme Judicial Council approved six European Delegated Prosecutors (EDPs) from Bulgaria after two days of hearings of all applicants for the position. A total of 23 Bulgarian magistrates (6 judges, 15 prosecutors and 2 investigating magistrates) applied for the position.

Chief Prosecutor Geshev Refused to Attend Hearing in Parliament on Police Brutality

Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev commented for BTA on the intention stated by MPs to request his hearing within the extraordinary sitting of parliament scheduled for Tuesday.

According to him there is a long-standing practice of the Constitutional Court, which excludes the exercise of parliamentary control over the work of specific magistrates and during pending cases.
