‘Beasts’ who beat up metro official will be brought to justice, says ministry
In a strongly worded press release, the Citizen's Protection Ministry pledged to bring to justice the two young men who punched and kicked a metro station manager in Athens on Wednesday after he asked them to wear their masks in the train, calling them "beasts."

Chrisohoidis tells occupiers of buildings to pay rent or get out
The public order ministry has ordered groups and individuals to abandon occupied buildings within 15 days.
He announced that whoever wishes to remain in buildings owned by private citizens should contact the owners to agree on the terms of rental.

Police union claims crucial units losing staff to patrols
The union of Athens police officers said Monday that it has appealed to the Athens Administrative Court against three-month secondment contracts that they say would transfer staff out of crucial police units to foot patrols.
New highway code to abolish discount on fines
The new Highway Code being designed by the Transport Ministry will abolish a 50 percent discount currently enjoyed by motorists for paying their fines within 10 days after receiving them.

Greek fire service chief steps down
The head of Greece's fire service Ioannis Karatzias submitted his resignation to the Alternate Citizens' Protection Ministry on Wednesday.
The reasons behind Karatzias's resignation were not immediately known.
A replacement was expected to be announced soon, the ministry said.

Extremist hate preachers talk of punishing the “faithless” in Greece
Greece’s daily Kathimerini reports that a Pakistani national was arrested in Athens in 2015 for “preaching hate” and disseminating extremist viewpoints to moslems in Greece. The Pakistani extremist self-proclaimed imam was reported to Greek authorities by members of the Pakistani community who reported him to The Citizens’ Protection Ministry in November 2014.
