Democratic Party's (PSD) presidential candidate Viorica Dancila stated on Tuesday that she never took justice by assault, but she in fact "corrected" things, when the Justice Ministers tried to intervene in the justice system. "I won't take responsibility for this. Because you have never seen Prime Minister Dancila taking justice by assault. I have never taken justice by assault.

President Iohannis Wins First Round of Romanian Election

With 99.9 percent of the ballots counted on Monday morning, incumbent President Klaus Iohannis, from the National Liberal Party, PNL, came out on top with 36.6 per cent of the votes in the first round of the Romanian presidential elections.

Social Democratic Party, PSD candidate Viorica Dancila came second with 23.7 per cent, and will now face Iohannis in a run-off on November 24.

Romania PM Calls Continued Control Mechanism ‘Discriminatory’

Romania's interim Prime Minister on Tuesday accused the European Commission of being "discriminatory" after it said it would continue to impose a Cooperation and Verification Mechanism, CVM, on Romania but not on Bulgaria.

The Commission imposed the measure on both Balkan countries after their accession in 2007, to address their problems with corruption.

Romanian President Nominates PNL’s Ludovic Orban as Premier

National Liberal Party, PNL leader Ludovic Orban has ten days to secure the support of parliament after President Klaus Iohannis asked him on Tuesday to form a new government.

Orban's nomination comes after the Social Democratic Party, PSD government was ousted last Thursday in a no-confidence vote tabled by the opposition.
