Number of people default on loan, card payments falls in 2023

The number of people with unpaid consumer loans and credit card payments declined by 11.6 percent last year from 2022 to 1.32 million, according to data Encazip compiled.

In 2022, nearly 1.5 million people failed to make consumer loans and credit card payments, according to the numbers of the Turkish Banks Association's (TBB) Risk Center.

Bad check volume rises by around 50 percent in value in eight months: Association

The volume of bad check transactions in value rose by 49 percent in the first eight months of the year compared to the same period of 2014, according to data released by the Risk Center of the Banks Association of Turkey on Sept. 14. 

The number of bad checks increased by 21 percent from January-August this year compared to the same period of 2014. 

Turks’ soaring debts setting off alarm bells

Turks’ soaring debt levels are beginning to set off alarm bells, with the number of consumers having difficulty paying credit card debts jumping by more than 30 percent in June compared to the same month last year.

According to figures compiled by the Turkish Banks Association (TBB) Risk Center, nearly 186,000 Turks did not pay their loan or credit card debts to banks in June.
