Justice Minister Tudorel Toader requested on Monday Prosecutor General Augustin Lazar to declassify the protocols concluded between the structures of the Prosecutor's Offices and the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI).

Former President of Romania, Chairman of the People's Movement Party (PMP) and Senator Traian Basescu stated that, taking into account the public pressure, the risk of disclosing all protocols signed by the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) should be assumed, mentioning that Romania's Supreme Council of National Defence (CSAT) has nothing to declassify from this point of view.

It is paramount that the protocol between the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) and the Public Prosecutor's Service (MP) be immediately declassified and published, on Sunday wrote on her Facebook page the president of the National Union of Magistrates of Romania (UNJR), Dana Girbovan.

Foreign Affairs Minister Teodor Melescanu stated on Saturday that the assessment of the activity of Romania's embassies at the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) level is to be completed in maximum ten days and mentioned that there is no list of heads of diplomatic missions who are to be assessed, the action being carried out annually.

Romania on Tuesday expelled a pro-Russian Serbian nationalist and banned him from entering the NATO member state for 15 years for spying on NATO military bases in southeastern Romania and showing an interest in obtaining classified information on military installations.

Romania's ruling Social Democratic Party is set to announce a new government on Wednesday after a two-week-long political crisis that raised questions over stability and threatened the economy.  

Bucharest will ask Serbia in the coming days to extradite former MP Sebastian Ghita, who is wanted in Romania on several corruption charges.

Ghita, 38, was detained in Belgrade last Thursday night after identifying himself to police with fake Slovenian documents.

He was arrested after Serbian police thought it strange a "Slovenian" was speaking only in English.

Military prosecutors of the Romanian Supreme Court on Friday indicted former president Ion Iliescu and other former senior officials with crimes against humanity for their role in the violence in 1990 that left at least four dead and over 700 wounded in Bucharest. 

Romanian telecommunications minister Marius Bostan said on Monday that draft legislation to compel all pre-paid simcard purchasers to reveal their identities will be sent to parliament soon.

"It says that people purchasing pre-paid cards will have to submit their personal data to the authorities," Bostan said.
