The legislative proposal amending and supplementing the Hunting and Game protection Law, currently under public consultation, threatens the existence of dozens of bird species in Romania, warn representatives of the Romanian Ornithological Society (SOR).

The Eurasian skylark (Alauda arvensis) and the chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra) will be placed under protection, and the decision, together with an opinion of the Ministry of the Environment, will be submitted to the government, acting Environmental Minister Costel Alexe said on Thursday at a news conference.

White storks' counting in 2019 saw an absolute record - for the first time, a seven-chicken nest, located in the village of Horodnic de Sus, the County of Suceava (northeast), on Friday informs the Romanian Ornithological Society (SOR) in a release sent to AGERPRES. So far, says the communique, the SOR database recorded nests with six chickens, yet this is the first one with seven chickens.

Ornithologists have managed, for the first time in Romania, to take photos of a Siberian bird species - Richard's pipit (Anthus richardi).

The Romanian Ornithological Society (SOR) points out in a release sent to AGERPRES on Monday, that Richard's pipit (Anthus richardi) was noticed by the SOR preservation director, Ciprian Fantana, in the Techirghiol Lake area.
