Romanian Parliament Votes Approval for Former FinMin's Arrest

The Romanian National Directorate (DNA) has requested that that the former Finance Minister Darius Valcov should be arrested.

Local Senate has officially approved the request, after Valcov himself appeared in front of MPs and made a statement that he would welcome a lawsuit as it will be a chance for him to prove his innocence, as reported by Romania Insider.

President Iohannis: Parliament will only regain citizens' trust if it responds promptly to justice requests

President Klaus Iohannis on Wednesday said that, in the context in which the Senate has rejected earlier the same day the request regarding the taking into custody and the placement under preventive arrest of Social Democratic senator Dan Sova, the Parliament will only be able to regain the citizens' trust when it responds "promptly and correctly" to requests from the judiciary.

The United States Embassy, in the context of the rejection by the Senate of the request regarding the taking into custody and placement under preventive detention of senator Dan Sova, that parliamentary immunity "shouldn't be used abusively by some to avoid responsibility."

In a 97-to-48 secret vote with 5 votes cancelled, the Senate plenum approved on Wednesday the taking into custody and placement under preventive detention of the former Finance Minister, Senator Darius Valcov in an influence peddling case.

PM Ponta: A new finance minister possible on Wednesday

Prime Minister Victor Ponta, also the national leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), major party at rule, said Monday that he might nominate a new finance minister on Wednesday, provided that the draft Tax Code and the Code of Tax Procedure are finalised by then.

Abe set to become first Japanese PM to address joint session of US Congress

Shinzo Abe is expected to become the first Japanese prime minister in history to address a joint session of the US Congress, crowning an April visit focused on deepening trade and military ties.
      
Abe hopes to make the speech during a trip to the United States at the end of next month, around Japan's "Golden Week" holiday, diplomatic and legislative sources told AFP.
