Kerry calls for US war powers to strike ISIL
Secretary of State John Kerry urged lawmakers Wednesday to give President Barack Obama updated war powers to go after Islamic jihadists at "a pivotal hour" in the battle against the militants.
"Our nation is strongest when we act together -- and we simply cannot allow this collection of murderers and thugs to achieve its ambitions," Kerry told Congress.

US Extends Sanctions Against Russia, EU Ready to Follow Suit
EU leaders and US President Barack Obama expressed readiness on Tuesday to extend the sanctions against Russia in case the Minsk ceasefire is further violated.

Eduard Hellvig, President Klaus Iohannis' pick to become director of Romania's Intelligence Service (SRI), will be heard on Tuesday at 10:00hrs, EET, by the joint parliamentary committee overseeing SRI, after which the standing bureaus will convene in session on Wednesday to agree on a date for the confirmation vote.
