Woman injured in second bear attack in a week
Škofljica – A 53-year woman sustained light injures after being attacked by a brown bear in the woods in the Pijava Gorica area, south of Ljubljana, on Saturday in what is the second such incident in a week, according to a police report.

Lynx released into the wild in Gorenjska welcome first kittens
Ljubljana – Efforts to rejuvenate the lynx population in the north-western Gorenjska region have proved successful as the first kittens have been born after five lynx were released into the wild there under the Life Lynx project. This comes after a successful rejuvenation of the lynx population in the south of the country.
130 bears culled this year in Slovenia
Ljubljana – As many as 130 brown bears were culled in Slovenia this year until 11 August, of which 121 were hunted on the basis of the Environment Agency’s permits and nine were found dead, the Environment Ministry told the STA on Friday, four days after a brown bear attacked a local while he was jogging near the town of Pivka, SW.

Precious timber auctioned off for EUR 1.2m
Slovenj Gradec – Prime timber offered at the 15th annual auction in Slovenia fetched EUR 1.2 million, EUR 800,000 less than in 2020. But given the Covid-19 pandemic, the organisers are happy as a record 46 bidders placed bids. The majority of logs on sale were oak, spruce, sycamore maple and ash, with a sycamore maple log fetching the highest price yet again.
