EC's Vice-President Timmermans to meet Speaker Dragnea, members of special committee on justice laws on 1 March

Vice-President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans on 1 March will be meeting Speaker of Romania's Chamber of Deputies Liviu Dragnea and members of a select committee on justice legislation.

Senate: Two candidates in the race for head of ICR: Radu Boroianu and Iulian Tanase

The Senate Speaker, Calin Popescu Tariceanu, on Tuesday announced two persons have already submitted their candidacies for becoming the next Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) head, namely Radu Boroianu, from the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and Iulian Tanase, from the National Liberal Party (PNL).

Judge resigns from Constitutional Court amidst major offense charges

Judge Toni Grebla resigned on Wednesday from the Constitutional Court of Romania, the Court announced in a media release. Grebla personally communicated his decision to the plenum of the Court, which acknowledged it; the President of the Court then took notice of the termination of Grebla's tenure.

Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) judge Toni Grebla has arrived, on Wednesday, at the headquarters of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) regarding the case in which he is accused of several crimes and in which the approval for his preventive arrest was requested.

Censure motion, social contribution cuts and fiscal amnesty on Chamber of Deputies agenda

The Chamber of Deputies Secretary Niculae Mircovici announced this legislative body's agenda for next week, including a censure motion titled 'PSD [ruling Social Democratic Party] is allergic to Justice' and draft laws on a 5 percent cut to employers' social contributions and on fiscal amnesty for retirees.

Dispute at the Senate over inviting President Basescu to attend its 150th anniversary event or not

The leader of the Democratic Liberal Senators, Dumitru Oprea, on Wednesday asked the Senators attending the plenary session of the Chamber to vote on inviting President Basescu to participate in the ceremonies occasioned by the Senate's 150th anniversary.
