Slovenia’ exports up 34.5% y/y to in July as imports rise 36%
Ljubljana – Slovenia recorded robust trade growth in July as merchandise exports rose by 34.5% year-on-year to EUR 4.6 billion. Imports however grew at an even faster pace, 36%, to hit EUR 4.7 billion, the Statistics Office said. EU countries accounted for 57.5% of exports and just over 59% of all imports, the former growing by 23.7% and the latter by 26.9%.
Gross insurance premiums up 2.5% to EUR 2.5bn in 2021
Ljubljana – The Slovenian insurance industry’s total gross premiums written in 2021 reached almost EUR 2.5 billion, up 2.5% over 2020, Statistics Office figures show. As much as EUR 1.9 billion came from physical persons and the remaining EUR 515 million from legal persons.
Consumer confidence remains at post-Covid low
Ljubljana – Slovenia’s consumer confidence has not changed this month, remaining at the lowest point since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, down 19 percentage points on August 2021 and 17 points below the long-term average, data from the Statistics Office shows.

Households experience rise in income over past year
Ljubljana – More than a quarter of Slovenian households have seen their incomes rise over the past year, while the share of households that have had problems paying their housing costs has also increased, shows a report by the Statistics Office. Meanwhile, 18% of households struggled to make ends meet with their income.
Industrial output drops slightly in June
Ljubljana – The value of industrial production was down 0.2% in June compared to May, driven by declines in all relevant fields. It continued to increase year-on-year though, as it was 0.8% higher than in June 2021. The value in the first half of the year was also 2.9% higher on the annual level, the Statistics Office said on Wednesday.

No major drop in property prices expected yet
Ljubljana – Judging by the available statistical data, Slovenia’s housing market is not showing signs of cooling just yet although real estate agents say prices have stopped going up mid-year. Still, pundits do not think any major drop in prices is likely over the next six months.

Slovenia’s positive net migration lowest since 2017
Ljubljana – Slovenia recorded what is the lowest positive net migration since 2017 last year as 2,480 people more moved in than out. Compared to 2020, the number of people who moved in was down by more than a third while the number of people who moved out was up by almost 20%, the Statistics Office said.
ICT sector increases value added by 10% in 2020
Ljubljana – Slovenian ICT companies generated EUR 4.55 billion in revenue in 2020, which was 2% more than the year before and 34% more that a decade earlier. Their value added reached EUR 1.74 billion, which was 10% more than in 2019, and the number of people working in the sector exceeded 30,000.

Bicycle import significantly higher than decade ago
Ljubljana – Import of bicycles in 2021 totalled some 82,600 bicycles, up by around 17,000 bicycles or a fifth compared to 2011, shows the latest data from the Statistics Office, with electric bikes also gaining in popularity over the last five years.
Three Slovenian towns bear names of world metropolises
Ljubljana – Statistics show that there are around 6,040 settlements of various types in Slovenia, and some of their names have a very positive or rather negative connotation, such as “party” or “injustice”. However, there are also towns named Rome, Vienna and Jerusalem, although much much smaller than the world’s eponymous cities.
